abstract This invention provides a fluorescent substance for use, for example, in the preparation of one chip-type white LED lighting in combination, for example, with near ultraviolet or ultraviolet LED or blue LED and having excellent luminescence efficiency including brightness. The fluorescent substance is characterized in that the fluorescent substance is represented by general formula MmAaBbOoNn:Z, wherein element M is at least one element having a valence of II, element A is at least one element having a valence of III, element B is at least one element having a valence of IV, O represents oxygen, N represents nitrogen, and element Z represents at least one activating agent, and a, b, m, n, o, and x satisfy that a =(1+x)×m, b =(4-x)×m, o=x×m, n=(7-x)×m, and 0≤x≤1, and that, when the fluorescent substance is excited by light with a wavelength in the range of 300 nm to 500 nm, the peak wavelength in the resultant luminescence spectrum is in the range of 500 nm to 620 nm.
