Pitch-derived short carbon fibers in which the ratio of the fiber-diameter dispersity ratio to the average fiber diameter is 0.05-0.2 and the fiber lengths are in the range of 20-6,000 µm. The carbon fibers are mixed as two kinds, i.e., first pitch-derived short carbon fibers having an average fiber diameter of 5-10 µm, excluding 10 µm, and second pitch-derived short carbon fibers having an average fiber diameter of 10-20 µm. Alternatively, the carbon fibers are incorporated as fibers having an average fiber diameter of 1-20 µm into a pitch-derived carbon fiber mat. Thus, dispersibility in a matrix resin is improved and the proportion of the carbon fibers dispersed in the resin is heightened. A carbon-fiber-reinforced material excellent in thermal conductivity and mechanical properties is provided. |
