abstract An object of the present invention is to provide a method for efficiently producing carbon fibers, more preferably ultrafine carbon fibers, and to provide ultrafine carbon fibers having excellent mechanical properties and a fiber diameter of 0.001 μm to 5 μm. 1) A mixture of 100 parts by weight of a thermoplastic resin and 1 to 150 parts by weight of at least one carbon precursor organic compound (A) selected from the group consisting of pitch, polyacrylonitrile, cellulose, and polycarbodiimide.
