abstract Disclosed is a carbon fiber nonwoven fabric composed of an aggregate of very fine fibers having a fiber diameter of 0.001-2 μm. Also disclosed is a method for producing such a carbon fiber nonwoven fabric. This nonwoven fabric is useful as a precursor or base material for fuel cell electrodes, or an electrode material. By mixing it with a resin, the nonwoven fabric can be used as a composite material. By having it support a metal, the nonwoven fabric can be also used as a filter.
