abstract A biochip-based detection system a biosensor platform including at least one receptor probe, the receptor probe providing an intensity modulated electromagnetic detection signal when combined with a target in response to irradiation by an intensity modulated electromagnetic excitation signal. An integrated circuit microchip is optically coupled with the biosensor platform and includes at least one photodetector for converting the electromagnetic detection signal into an electrical signal. Signal processing circuitry is provided for receiving the electrical signal and determining spectroscopic data including at least one lifetime of the target to permit its identification. The system supports the methods of both time resolved spectroscopy and phase resolved spectroscopy.
