titleOfInvention Production of deuterated acrylic acid or methacrylic acid
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound economically and readily without requiring a deuterated raw material, e.g. heavy water, in a small few reaction steps, by exchanging hydrogen atoms in acrylic acid or methacrylic acid directly with deuteriums in the presence of a catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: Hydrogen atoms in acrylic acid or methacrylic acid are exchanged with deuteriums, as necessary, in a solvent, e.g. dimethylacetamide or dimethylformamide, in the presence of a catalyst of give the titled compound. The reaction temperature is room temperature W300°C, preferably 60W200°C, and the reaction time is normally 20minW100hr. The reaction may be carried out in either one of the vapor phase and liquid phase under pressure. A polymerization inhibitor, e.g. phenothiazine or hydroquinone, may be added in order to suppress the polymerization reaction, or a small volume of oxygen may coexist in the reaction solution to suppress the polymerization. A compound containing palladium, ruthenium, iridium and/or platinum is used as the catalyst. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
