Azacyclic derivatives of formula (I) in which each of X and Y is independently CH or N; RCO is an acyl group in which the group R contains a substituted or unsubstituted carbocyclic aromatic or heterocyclic aromatic ring; each of R1 and R2, which may be the same or different, is C1-6 alkyl optionally substituted by at least one of halogen, hydroxy, C1-6 alkoxy, acyloxy, thiol, C1-6 alkylthio, alcylthio, halo-C1-6 alkoxy, CORh, COORh, CONHRh or NCHORh where Rh is hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl; or each of R1 and R2 is hydrogen, C2-6 alkenyl, C3-6 cycloalkyl, or C4-12 cycloalkylalkyl; or R1 and R2 together form an optionally substituted C2-8 branched or linear polymethylene or C2-6 alkenylene group, are kappa-receptor agonists and are useful in the treatment of pain, convulsions, cough, asthma, inflammation, pancreatitits, arrhythmias, hyponatraemic disease states, cerebral ischaemia or skin disorders. |
