According to the present invention, a battery 2 is provided with: an outer can 10; and an electrode group 22 which is housed in the outer can 10 together with an alkaline electrolyte, wherein a positive electrode 24 included in the electrode group 22 is provided with a positive electrode base material and a positive electrode mixture which is carried on the positive electrode base material, the positive electrode mixture includes nickel hydroxide and a positive electrode additive, the positive electrode additive includes titanium oxide particles having a crystal structure of an anatase type, the titanium oxide particles have an average primary particle diameter of 5-10 nm, and a BET specific surface area of 230-360 m2/g, and include at least 0.1 mass% of niobium, and the addition rate of the titanium oxide is 0.1-1.0 mass% with respect to the nickel hydroxide. |
