abstract PURPOSE:A gamma-pyronic acid derivative is used to inhibit, e.g., living bodies from browning with sun beams, e.g., sunburn or freckles, lotus roots from blackening and construction material from causing problems by tannin. CONSTITUTION:A derivative of a gamma-pyronic acid such as Kojic acid, comenic acid, pyrocomenic acid, their esters, maltol, ethylmaltol, 3-hydroxy-2-hydroxy- methyl-4(H)-pyran-4-one is used to inhibit living bodies of men, fishes from browning, such as sunburn, freckles or blackening of shrimps, gold fishes, etc., browning of lotus roots, etc.
