titleOfInvention | The process of rapid blackening of surgical suture needles |
abstract | A new method for blackening a surgical needle is disclosed. A surgical suture needle having an outer surface is first placed in a first pretreatment bath having a new composition. The needle is then placed in a second blackening bath with the new composition for a time sufficient to effectively blacken the surface of the needle. A new method for blackening the surface of a stainless steel alloy surgical needle provides a chromium (VI) free process that replaces the current needle manufacturing process. Another unique feature of this new method is its short processing time. The blackening process of the present invention can be utilized in an in-line processing process that can be easily incorporated into a high speed needle manufacturing process such as a strip attachment process. In addition, the process of the present invention can be easily adapted to batch processes. Also disclosed is a new system for blackening surgical suture needles and a new blackening bath for surgical suture needles. |
