abstract | An alkaline storage battery having a large discharge capacity and small performance deterioration during overdischarge is provided. A positive electrode active material for an alkaline storage battery has a core layer containing nickel hydroxide and a conductive auxiliary layer covering the surface of the core layer, the conductive auxiliary layer comprising a cobalt oxyhydroxide phase and cerium dioxide. And the active material contains lithium. By including the cerium dioxide phase in the conductive auxiliary layer, it is possible to suppress the reduction of cobalt oxyhydroxide even in situations such as overdischarge. Moreover, the discharge capacity of a battery can be increased because the active material contains lithium and the conductive auxiliary layer contains a cerium dioxide phase. [Selection] Figure 1 |
