[Solution] Using an Escherichia bacterium having an increased expression level of a gene encoding a xylose-assimilating enzyme such as the xylABFGHR locus, L-histidine, L-threonine, L-lysine, L-glutamic acid, L-tryptophan and other L- A method for producing an amino acid is disclosed. The method includes culturing an L-amino acid-producing bacterium in a medium containing xylose and recovering the L-amino acid from the medium. [Selection figure] None
