An apparatus for dissociating a gas includes a plasma chamber, which may be formed from a metallic material, and a transformer having a magnetic core and a primary winding surrounding a portion of the plasma chamber. The device further includes one or more switching semiconductor devices connected directly to the voltage source and having an output connected to the primary winding of the transformer. The one or more switching semiconductor devices drive a current in the primary winding that induces a potential to form a plasma in the chamber, which completes the secondary circuit of the transformer. |
