abstract (57) [Problem] To provide a positive electrode active material for an alkaline storage battery that can achieve a high capacity while suppressing an increase in the negative electrode capacity, and that does not easily cause an increase in the internal pressure of the battery. SOLUTION: A positive electrode active material for an alkaline storage battery is used for producing a positive electrode for an alkaline storage battery, and comprises a core layer containing nickel hydroxide and a surface layer containing a cobalt compound and covering the core layer. And is oxidized using an oxidizing agent in an aqueous alkaline solution.
