SOLUTION: The content of an ethylene unit is 2 to 19 mol%, A vinyl alcohol polymer having a degree of polymerization of 200 to 2000, a degree of saponification of 80 to 99.99 mol%, and a total content of carboxyl groups and lactone rings of 0.02 to 0.4 mol%.
