A sulfamoyl-substituted phenethylamine derivate represented by the general formulan wherein R 1 represents an amino group or a mono- or di-lower alkylamino group; R 2 represents a hydroxyl group, a lower alkyl group, or a lower alkoxy group; R 3 represents hydrogen, halogen, a lower alkyl group, a lower alkoxy group, a phenylthio group, or a phenylsulfinyl group; R 4 , R 5 , R 6 , R 7 , R 8 , and R 9 are selected independently from hydrogen and lower alkyl groups; R 10 represents hydrogen, a lower alkyl group, or a lower alkoxy group; and Y represents oxygen or a methylene group and is oxygen when R 2 is a hydroxyl group; or a salt thereof. The compounds exhibit a-adrenergic blocking action and are useful as antihypertensive agents and for the treatment of congestive heart failure. In the preferred compounds according to the invention R 3 is hydrogen or lower alkyl. |
