titleOfInvention Cis-olefinically unsaturated esters prepn. - from vinyl cis-hexenyl ketone by reaction with cyanide and treatment with alkanol
abstract A new process is disclosed for preparing cis-olefinically unsatd. esters having formula (I) (where R is lower alkoxy, e.g. MeO or EtO) from vinyl-cis-hexenyl-ketone (III). (II) is reacted with HCN or a metal cyanide, to form a nitrile having formula (IV). (IV) is converted to (I) by treatment with a lower alkanol in the presence of an acid. (I) can be converted to gamma-jasmine lactone.
