abstract |
The closed rebreathing system (10) according to the present invention is a safe and effective way to provide liquid ventilation while minimizing the loss of ventilation fluid vapor, and thus reducing consumption of the ventilation fluid and minimizing treatment labor associated with redosing the patients. An ICU ventilator (12) can be used in its normal modes, if the user compensates for the reduced tidal volume (associated with stiff lungs) and manually intervenes when needed to rapidly increase oxygen concentration. In addition, the closed circuit provides a measurement of oxygen consumption and loss. |
