abstract An inhalation apparatus which supplies appropriate volumes of oxygen to a closed breathing system (10), to replace the oxygen used by a patient (44). A variable volume enclosure (26) is situated within a container (24) which has an inlet (30) connected to a ventilator for the supply of oxygen into the container. The interior of the enclosure (26) is in communication with the breathing system (10) and the interior of the container (24) is also in communication with the breathing system, via a one-way valve (36) which opens, to replenish the oxygen in the breathing system, when the pressure within the breathing system is lower than that within the container (24).
