The invention concerns a method for producing oxidized starch. According to the method, the starting material containing starch is contacted with a reagent producing oxoammonium ion, in particular 2,2,6,6,-tetramethylpiperidin-1-oxyl, in the presence of an oxidizing agent. According to the invention, an oxidative enzyme, such as laccase, is used as the oxidizing agent. By using laccase as the oxidizing agent is achieved quite selective oxidation while avoiding the halide-containing reagents that are considered harmful to the environment. |
