abstract A cosmetic preparation containing a silica-coated metal oxide powder which has a silica coating thickness of 0.1 to 100 nm and a photocatalytic activity as determined by the tetralin autoxidation method of 6 mmH2O/min or lower; and a metal oxide powder coated with a silica film giving an infrared absorption spectrum in which the ratio (I) peak intensity at 1,150 to 1,250 cm-1 (I1) to that at 1,000 to 1,100 cm-1 (I2) is 0.2 or higher and having a refractive index of 1.435 or higher.
