An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing oxide particles with controlled color characteristics, and oxide particles with controlled color characteristics, and an oxide selected from metal oxide particles and semi-metal oxide particles. The color characteristics of the oxide particles are controlled by controlling the ratio of M-OH bonds, which are bonds between one or different elements (M) other than oxygen or hydrogen contained in the particles and hydroxyl groups (OH).
