titleOfInvention Carboxylic ester derivatives containing ether group and liquid-crystal composition containing the same
abstract Compounds represented by general formula (I), a liquid-crystal composition containing the same, and a liquid-crystal display element made using the liquid-crystal composition, wherein B1 and B2 each represents trans-1,4-cyclohexylene or 1,4-phenylene in which at least one of the hydrogen atoms on the six-membered ring may have been replaced by halogeno; Y represents C1-3 halogenoalkyl, C1-3 halogenoalkoxy, cyano, fluoro, or chloro; X represents fluoro, chloro, or hydrogen; R1 represents C1-10 alkyl or C1-10 alkoxy; n and m each independently is 1 or 2; and p is 0 or 1. These compounds have high anisotropy in permittivity, a low threshold voltage, a satisfactory temperature dependence of the threshold voltage, and satisfactory compatibility with existing liqui-crystal compounds. A liquid-crystal composition containing any of these compounds can be used to provide a liquid-crystal display element for low-voltage drive.
