Hypoxia-responsive adhesion molecules, specific antibodies, and their uses |
abstract |
The invention relates to novel cell adhesion molecules and their ligands, to genes which encode cell adhesion molecules or ligands, and to antibodies that specifically bind to these molecules. Antibodies can be utilized to inhibit the process of cell adhesion and to treat disorders associated with adhesion such as arterial sclerosis, myocardial infarctions and metastatic neoplasia. Antibodies may be polyclonal or monoclonal, and may be directed to one or a group of epitopes of the cell adhesion molecule. The invention also relates to methods for the treatment or prevention of disorders associated with cell adhesion such as strokes, myocardial infarctions and the pathological consequences associated with anaphylaxis and inflammation. |
