titleOfInvention Inhibition of growth of cancer cells
abstract The present invention provides a method of preferentially selecting for the growth of normal cells in mixed cultures. The method involves culturing the mixed culture in a medium lacking pyruvate but including carnosine or anserine. The carnosine or anserine is used at a concentration at which the growth of the transformed and/or cancer cells is substantially prevented in the absence of pyruvate but at which normal cells will continue to grow in the absence of pyruvate.
