titleOfInvention P53-based polypeptide fragments, nucleic acid molecules encoding same, and uses thereof
abstract The subject invention provides a nucleic acid molecule which encodes a polypeptide comprising a portion of p53 protein, which polypeptide is (a) capable of specifically binding to DNA having the sequence specifically recognized by p53 protein, (b) capable of specifically activating transcription of the DNA sequences whose transcription is activated by p53, (c) incapable of tetramerizing, and (d) incapable of binding to MDM-2 protein, and the polypeptide encoded thereby. The subject invention also provides a vector comprising the recombinant nucleic acid molecule of the subject invention. The subject invention further provides a host vector system for the production of a polypeptide comprising a portion of p53 protein. The subject invention further provides a method for producing the polypeptide of the subject invention using the host vector system of the subject invention. The subject invention further provides a pharmaceutical composition which comprises an effective amount of a recombinant virus capable of infecting a suitable host cell, said recombinant virus comprising a nucleic acid molecule encoding the polypeptide of the subject invention and capable of being expressed in the suitable host cell, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
