abstract The present invention is directed to fusion proteins comprising ligand-protein hybrids. These hybrids can cleave any predetermined site within a DNA or RNA molecule, or hydrolyze a defined number of nucleotides from the DNA or RNA termini. In particular, the fusion proteins of the invention are composed of a ligand-exonuclease, or a ligand-endonuclease. Methods for using these fusion proteins are also encompassed in the present invention. Specifically, the present invention is directed to a Staphylococcal fusion protein.
