abstract Novel antigen are presented which are useful in vaccine formulations for the prophylactic treatment of a range of infectious diseases. The antigens comprise a hybrid polypeptide, one part being the S antigen of the hepatitis B virus, the other being a heterologous antigen, such as gD from HSV. The two antigens are linked by chemical spacers through a native sulphydryl group present on the surface of the S antigen.
