abstract A method for release of an active ingredient from a capsule. The active ingredient is encapsulated in a material which is salt sensitive and the integrity of the capsule is maintained by keeping the capsule in an aqueous solution having a salt concentration higher than the concentration at which the salt sensitive material is soluble. When the release of the active ingredient is desired, the salt sensitive shell of the capsule is dissolved in the aqueous solution in which the capsule is being kept to release the active ingredient by decreasing the salt concentration of the solution. Depending upon the particular salt sensitive material selected for the shell, the release of the active ingredient may be facilitated by a change in the temperature of the aqueous solution.
