Process for the preparation of aromatic carbamates with high yield, comprising reacting an aromatic nitro compound, an organic compound having a hydroxyl group, and carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst composed of (a) 0.5 to 20mole (as metal) of a platinum metal or a compound thereof, (b) 1 to 70mole (as a metal) of vanadium or a compound thereof, ( c) 0.3 to 50 mole (in the form of metal) of iron or a compound thereof, (d) 30 to 400 mole of a halogen atom, and (e) a tertiary amine, by kilo of this organic compound containing a hydroxy group intended to be introduced into the reaction system. |
