Provided is a method for manufacturing hollow particles that have a high void ratio, can reduce the quantity of residue of solvents poorly soluble in water that are used in the manufacturing process, and are not prone to collapse. A method for manufacturing hollow particles, provided with a shell and a hollow section and having a void ratio of 50%–90%, characterized in that a liquid mixture including a polymerizable monomer for the shell, a polar resin, a hydrocarbon-based solvent, an inorganic metal salt poorly soluble in water as a dispersant, and a water-based medium is put in suspension to prepare a suspension in which droplets of a monomer composition that includes the polymerizable monomer for the shell, the polar resin, and the hydrocarbon-based solvent are dispersed in the water-based medium, the suspension is subjected to a polymerization reaction, and the hydrocarbon-based solvent is removed from the obtained hollow particles. |
