The present invention relates to a process for producing seven-carbon molecules formed of a four-carbon chain containing three methyl branches, mainly triptane (2,2,3-trimethylbutane), by means of an alcohol coupling reaction (Guerbet reaction), with the production of triptane by transforming the alcohol. The importance of said process relates to the fact that triptane is the hydrocarbon with the highest capability for withstanding compression without igniting and can be used in aviation gasoline lacking lead and in the formulation of automotive gasoline with a high octane rating. |
