titleOfInvention | Biomaterial construct and methods of production thereof |
abstract | The present invention relates to a biomaterial construct, a method of producing a biomaterial construct, a tissue equivalent implant comprising or consisting of said biomaterial construct and a method of treatment of a damaged tissue in an individual using said biomaterial construct. The method of producing the biomaterial construct comprises steps of providing a vessel containing a hydrogel, and simultaneously rotating the vessel about both a first axis of rotation and a second axis of rotation to apply a centrifugal force to the hydrogel, thereby causing plastic compaction of the hydrogel to form the biomaterial construct by expulsion of at least some of a fluid phase of the hydrogel through a surface of the hydrogel. Biomaterial constructions formed according to this method show improved mechanical properties in comparison to biomaterial constructions formed by conventional methods of hydrogel compaction, due to more homogeneous plastic compaction of the hydrogel achievable by the method of the present invention. |
