abstract | A polarizing film according to the present invention includes: polyvinyl alcohol (A); at least one boron-containing compound (B) selected from the group consisting of a compound which can be converted into monoboronic acid in the presence of water and the monoboronic acid as represented in expression (I) below; and at least one boron-containing compound (C) selected from the group consisting of a compound which can be converted into diboronic acid in the presence of water and the diboronic acid as represented in expression (II) below, wherein the mass ratio (B/C) of the elemental boron derived from the boron-containing compound (B) to the elemental boron derived from the boron-containing compound (C) is 4.0-8.0, and the elemental boron content derived from the boron-containing compound (C) is 0.05-0.3 parts by mass to 100 parts by mass of the polyvinyl alcohol (A). The polarizing film has a small contracting force at high temperatures and outstanding moisture and heat resistance. [In expression (I), R1 is a monovalent aliphatic group having a carbon number of 1-20, and R1 and the boronic acid group are linked by a boron-carbon bond.] [In expression (II), R2 is a bivalent aliphatic group having a carbon number of 1-20, and R2 and the boronic acid group are linked by a boron-carbon bond.] |
