abstract An embodiment of the present invention is a phosphor powder including, as a main component, Eu-activated β-SiAlON phosphor particles. The present invention provides a phosphor powder in which D1/D2 is 1.05 to 1.70, where D1 is the median diameter (D50) measured by a wet measurement using a laser diffraction particle size distribution measurement apparatus in the phosphor powder not subjected to ultrasonic homogenizer processing, and D2 is the median diameter (D50) measured by a wet measurement using a laser diffraction particle size distribution measurement apparatus in the phosphor powder subjected to ultrasonic homogenizer processing under the conditions described below. (Conditions) A liquid dispersion in which 30 mg of the phosphor powder is uniformly dispersed in 100 mL of an aqueous solution of sodium hexametaphosphate having a concentration of 0.2% is placed in a cylindrical container in which the bottom surface thereof has an inside diameter of 5.5 cm. The liquid dispersion is then irradiated with ultrasonic waves for 3 minutes at a frequency of 19.5 kHz and an output of 150 W in a state in which the cylindrical tip of an ultrasonic homogenizer, having an outside diameter of 20 mm, is immersed to a depth of at least 1.0 cm in the liquid dispersion.
