Provided is a honeycomb structure capable of improving the readability of printed characters and symbols. The honeycomb structure comprises a tubular honeycomb structure part 10 provided with porous partition walls 1 that are disposed so as to surround a plurality of cells 2 extending from a first end face 11 to a second end face 12, and an outer peripheral coating layer 20 formed of an outer coating material that is applied to at least a part of the outer periphery of the honeycomb structure part 10, wherein: the outer peripheral coating layer 20 is provided, on the surface thereof, with a printing area 21 to be printed; the printing area 21 has a lightness (L) in the L*a*b* color space specified by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) of 35 or more; and the surface roughness Ra of the printing area 21 is not more than 30 μm. |
