Quantum dot devices, and related systems and methods, are disclosed herein. An exemplary quantum dot device may include a substrate housing a quantum well stack having a plurality of layers, and a plurality of gate stacks adjacent to different portions of a first layer of the quantum well stack. The quantum well layers are stacked in a direction parallel to the substrate so that each of the layers is substantially perpendicular to the substrate, i.e. the layers are vertical. Consequently, quantum dots which form in the quantum well stack during operation of the device may be seen as arranged in a vertical array. Quantum dot devices disclosed herein provide strong spatial localization of the quantum dots, good scalability in the number of quantum dots included in the device, and/or design flexibility in making electrical connections to the quantum dot devices. |
