The invention provides methods, kits, and compositions for amplifying and detecting a large number of different types of human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) in a sample. The methods, kits and compositions utilize both a pair of specific primers that amplify the integrase gene (INT) and a specific primer pair that amplifies the long terminal repeat region (LTR). The methods, kits, and compositions may also utilize a dual probe system with a fluorophore label and a fluorescent quencher. |
