abstract The present invention provides a display device which can be thinned and has excellent flexibility and durability, and a method for manufacturing a display device, wherein the method is suitable for manufacturing said display device. The present invention provides: (I) a display device in which from the rear surface side toward the observation surface side, a display panel, a phase difference layer, and a polarizer are stacked in this order and integrated without using an adhesive layer interposed therebetween; and (II) a method for manufacturing a display device, the method including: a step for forming a first alignment film on the display panel, applying a solution containing a first polymerizable liquid crystal on the first alignment film, and curing the first polymerizable liquid crystal to form a phase difference layer, and a step for forming a second alignment film on the phase difference layer, applying a solution containing the second polymerizable liquid crystal and a dichromatic material on the second alignment film, and curing the second polymerizable liquid crystal to form a polarizer.
