abstract The invention relates to a process for monitoring the concentration of bacteria in the water of a water distribution network, characterized in that it comprises the following steps: measuring the concentration of bacteria in the water by a first sensor positioned at a first location in the water distribution network (step 1001), determining a variable instantaneous value for the expected concentration of bacteria in the water at the first location as a function of a parameter characteristic of the water (step 1002), comparing the concentration of bacteria in the water measured by the first sensor with the variable instantaneous value (step 1003), corrective action which acts on the concentration of bacteria in the water if the concentration of bacteria in the water measured by the first sensor is greater than the variable instantaneous value (step 1004). The invention also relates to a device for monitoring the concentration of bacteria in the water of a water distribution network.
