abstract |
[Problem] To provide a polymer composition that can yield a highly dichroic polarizing element even without an alignment film. [Solution] Provided is a polymer composition containing (A) a side-chain polymer having a structure exhibiting photoreactivity and a structure exhibiting liquid crystal properties, and (B) a dichroic pigment and an organic solvent. A highly dichroic polarization layer can be obtained by a production method that includes: a step for forming a coating film by applying the composition to a substrate, a step for exposing the resulting coating film to polarized ultraviolet rays, and a step for heating the resulting coating film. A polarizing element obtained using the polymer composition does not require an alignment film and is therefore expected to simplify production processes and reduce the cost of components. |
