abstract The invention provides a rapid, accurate, sensitive, and low-cost method for determining the relative copy number of a nucleotide sequence from a biological sample. The method involves quantitation of a fluorescent marker in a test sample, and a different fluorescent marker in a control (reference) sample. Comparison of the amount of fluorescence between the two samples provides the relative copy number of the nucleotide sequence in the test sample, and can therefore be used to determine copy number variation.
