abstract The present invention provides a new method to prepare novolac-based phenolic foam comprising: forming at least one precursor body comprising a mixture of at least one novolac resin, at least one crosslinking foaming agent, and at least one curing agent; foaming the precursor body mixture by heating the mixture to at least the melting temperature of the novolac resin, to produce a foamed precursor body; and curing the foamed precursor body, thereby forming at least one phenolic foam body.
