Silica particles, each of which has a thiol group on the surface and contains a fluorescent or light-absorbing dye, and which satisfy the following conditions (a) and (b).n(a) The particle diameters thereof are 20-1,000 nm.n(b) The density of the thiol groups on the silica particle surfaces is 0.002-0.2 group/nm 2 .n(c) The ratio of the amount of thiol groups present on the surfaces of the silica particles ((B) [group/particle]) relative to the amount of elemental sulfur in the silica particles ((A) the number of sulfur atoms derived from thiol per one silica particle), namely (B)/(A) is 0.10-0.60. |
