titleOfInvention Fermentation and in situ extraction of menaquinones during microbial culture
abstract The present invention relates to a process for obtaining a lipid-soluble substance, such as a menaquinone. The method comprises: a) culturing a microorganism in a culture medium comprising an extracting amount of a lipid phase, wherein said culturing is carried out under conditions promoting production of said substance and partitioning of said substance into said lipid phase; and b) separating the lipid phase from the aqueous phase of the culture medium. The invention also relates to lipid-soluble substances, such as menaquinones. Where the lipid-soluble substance comprises a menaquinone, such as MK-7, the invention also relates to dietary supplements, pharmaceutical compositions and nutraceutical compositions comprising menaquinones obtained by processes of the invention.
