abstract Provided are: a solid solution lithium-containing α-sialon phosphor, wherein Li + is made to form a solid solution in order to stabilize the structure, having excellent luminous efficiency compared to phosphors of the prior art; a light-emitting element; and a lighting device. With regard to α-sialon crystals containing lithium and europium, the lithium content is set at 1.8 to 3 mass%, and the europium content is set at 0.1 to 1.5 mass%, while the average particles size, as measured by laser diffractometry, is set at 7 to 35 μm. The phosphor is used in the light-emitting element and the lighting device.
