abstract | Huperzine A analog compounds having acetylcholinesterase inhibitor activity are described. The huperzine analogs are used in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Various compositions and methods include an NMDA receptor antagonist and either a mitochondrial protectant or anti-inflammatory agent. The acetylcholinesterase inhibitor may be specific to the G4 isoform of acetylcholinesterase. Methods of treating neurodegenerative diseases by administering a composition having a therapeutically effective amount of one of the acetycholinesterate compounds are described. |
