abstract |
Provided is an abnormality determination device for a particulate matter detection sensor, capable of determining the presence of an abnormality in the detection of particulate matter in a particulate matter detection sensor. A PM sensor (10) comprises a sensor element (12) that contacts particulate matter (PM) in exhaust gas in an exhaust tube (6) of an internal combustion engine (2), and the output is varied according to the amount of particulate matter adhering to the sensor element (12). A heater of the PM sensor (10) can heat the sensor element (12) to a PM-removing temperature (T3) which is a temperature at which particulate matter adhering to the sensor element (12) is removed from the sensor element (12). Based on the variations in the output (S1 through S4) of the PM sensor (10) according to control of the heater, an ECU (50) executes a process for determining whether or not there is an abnormality in the PM sensor (10). |
