abstract Provided are a carbonaceous material reduced in unevenness in the state in which the graphene sheets face each other and a process for producing the carbonaceous material. Also provided are: a process for flaked-graphite production which enables more thinly flaked graphite to be easily mass-produced; and the flaked graphite.nThe carbonaceous material comprises a stack of graphene sheets and a substance intercalated between the graphene sheets, and is expanded graphite that gives an XRD pattern which has diffraction peaks respectively in the 2θ ranges of 7-12º and 18-24º and in which a diffraction peak appearing in the range of 25-27º has a lower height than the diffraction peak appearing in the range of 18-24º, the peak which appears in the 2θ range of 7-12º having a half-value width of 4º or less. The process for carbonaceous-material production comprises immersing at least some of sheet-shaped graphite or sheet-shaped expanded graphite in an aqueous electrolyte solution to electrochemically treat the graphite. The process for flaked-graphite production comprises a step in which exfoliation force is applied to the carbonaceous material to thereby obtain flaked graphite. The flaked graphite is obtained by this process.
