abstract The invention relates to a process for obtaining a collagen-rich extract from animal skins and to the resulting extract, said process being a modified version of traditional tanning processes. The invention is centred on obtaining collagen in a state that allows same to be extracted simply and without being contaminated, as well as obtaining the start products of the traditional tanning process as an additional product of the process, while significantly reducing the consumption of clean water in the process, without requiring the use of contaminating chemical products, and thereby producing effluents that can be re-used for the same process.
